Buried Treasures

Pirates were known to bury their treasure in a remote area hoping to return for it at a later time. Sometimes treasure maps were made and kept in a secret place so that when they were ready to retrieve it they could find it. The only pirate they know for sure who buried their treasure is William Kidd. They believe he buried it on Long Island before heading into New York. There is no other buried treasure as intriguing and mysterious as the supposed treasure that was to have been buried on Oak Island in Nova Scotia.

It was in 1795 when Daniel McGinnis, John Smith and Anthony Vaughan began to dig for treasure but they only dug down 30 feet and then give up. They returned in 1803 with the Onslow Company but only got to 90 feet where the pit became flooded. They returned the next year and dug down 110 feet parallel to the first pit before it too flooded. It was another 45 years before anyone else tried to excavate for the buried treasure again. By 1965, six people lost their lives searching for a buried treasure that appeared to be non-existent.

On another island, Robinson Crusoe, is where 600 barrels of buried treasure has been found. This find is believed to be from the Spanish colonial era and the Chilean Government is staking their claim to it. This treasure is believed to have been buried by a Spanish Sailor, Juan Esteban Ubilla y Echeverria, in 1715. For almost 300 years treasure hunters have been searching for this lost loot stolen by the Spanish during their conquest of South America. So for those who don't believe that buried treasure exists; think again.
